A few months ago, I took my camera and went to film Jaffa Gate late at night. In a cafe right beside the New Imperial hotel in a small alley, I encountered this group of young men and women, singers practicing for midnight mass at the Nativity Church in Bethlehem. I wanted to share this moment with all, these beautiful people kept on singing into the night and I went home with my heart full.

Having a trained choir be part of religious services, and/or having the entire congregation sing as part of the service, are durable Christian inventions. I have witnessed a woman’s choir be part of a Hindu New Year service in a temple. I see, Ms Elon, that this practice appeals to you, the secular Jew, as well. There are reasons why Christianity has proved powerfully appealing historically. You have stumbled on one of them.
